The Importance of Drawing and Perspective
I was looking for a solution to my new perspective membership site software when I stumbled across what I thought was a forum for the software.
‘I joined as perspective, my handle, and asked a question about the software’.
That was when I realized it was a huge forum dealing with a creative group of art apps.
When I looked at the forum I noticed a couple of unanswered questions regarding perspective drawing, so I answered them and thought nothing of it. A few weeks later when I looked in again I noticed I had a lot of views. I was shocked!
So where am I going with this?
A month later I had another look and found over 13,000 views were made to my thread.
Now when you compare that to threads that were posted in some cases a few years ago, no one comes close, I think most were a few hundred hits with a few around the 5,000 mark that were posted a few years back.
How can anyone tell me that perspective drawing is not alive and full of interest!
And why do we not see more courses out there for the up and coming artists?
One of the BIG problems is the technical aspect of perspective drawings. A group of Technical Illustrators, will always discuss perspective but the fact that they are Technical Illustrators makes it worrying to the Fine Artist and Graphic Artists. We need to make perspective an easy, fun and simple skill and to do that we need to get away from the fact that perspective is only for the Technical Artists.
I have seen too many landscape, still life and freehand sketches where the artist has no idea about perspective because he or she draws what they ‘see’.
We need, as perspective artists, to show just how important perspective is to us in our every day life, even if you are a CAD or 3D artist.
I hope I have not gone over the top on this but perspective drawing will never die and artist all over the globe are longing to understand it but are frightened or too lazy to go through the technical part, which after all is only the theory that you only need to learn once.
I would love to know the answer.
